The Merriest 02:28
I'd like to fix this bag of tricks And hand it out with a fleeting greeting: Smiles for the frowners Salutes to the uppers Boosts for the downers May the day be the bowl of cherriest And to all, the Merriest! Hope you swing during the season Hope your days go great Hope you find plenty of reasons all year long to celebrate Sun for the mopers A laugh for the criers Luck for the hopers To the strange and the ordinariest Me to you, the Merriest! Thoughts for the musers A cheer for the winners Breaks for the losers To the beats and the debonariest Greetings like the Merriest! Hope there's oil under your rose vine Hope you get that raise Hope you hope everything goes fine The next 300 and some odd days Friends for the loners A Song for the singers Grins for the groaners Make the day the nothing can compariest Have the most, the merriest! Have the most, the merriest!

Things I have lost and things I am learning Make the world seem strange. Wanderers must have something to trust, Never let Christmas change! Ring a merry bell at Christmas time, Hang the holly, decorate the tables, I am far from home. Sing a merry song at Christmas time, Please be jolly, tell familiar fables For the folks who roam. High up, tie up the mistletoe, Tinsel tip the tree. Popcorn and silver, on top a star, So bright that a stranger can see it from afar. Wrap a merry gift at Christmas time, Curl the ribbon, stick on fancy labels, I am far from home. High up, tie up the mistletoe, Tinsel tip the tree. Popcorn and silver, on top a star, So bright that a stranger can see it from afar. Ring a merry bell at Christmas time, Hang the holly, decorate the tables. Light the highest brightest star It may guide me home, Do-ba-do-ba-do.

It's a terrible disgrace All this trash around the place As the end of the year is drawing near These are things I can't discard But it shouldn't be too hard To find a way to use them Since I can't give away or lose them I'll take the sorrows of last November Make them a part of Christmas Day Color them shiny bright and gay And hang them on the tree I'll take the quarrels of last September Cold with the words all sad and grey Cover them with a silver spray And hang them on the tree Every worry, every fear (vocal up, band down) I'll tie on a string with every tear Watch them dance in a Christmas light A year's worth of troubles, shining bright (Horn figure up) I didn't realize last December They could be used a better way Payed for then, enjoyed much later Time is the greatest decorator Paint those mean things Red and green things

Winter's mostly cold and grey, But I have found it true That a change of heart can change the scene And colour the point of view. When the lights come on, I see Snow red as holly and snow green as a pine tree. Everyone I meet wears a smile, Just for a little while. In the candle shine, I see Snow pink as a sunrise and snow blue in the shadows. Friendly greetings come into style, Just for a little while. Silver snow from starlight on tinsel, Golden snow the sun has made. Seven shades of snow that shine like a rainbow, And like a rainbow, soon will fade. When the lights go out, there'll be The pine tree and the holly, the shadow and the sunrise. Golden days and stars in the night, And though the snow is only white, If my heart can keep this magic glow, I keep seeing seven shades of snow.
5.
Midnight will sound And we'll all gather round The new little year Of the day But dear old year Before you go Here's something you ought to know Though your back is bent And your beard is gray You're a year well spent And I'd like to say You put on a 1st class show And I'm sorry to see you go You brought trouble Taught me to handle it Thanks for the lesson You brought romance Oh what a scandal it caused When it all fell through ;-) You brought worry Taught me to laugh at it Now I'm confessin' That my whole approach is new After a year like you So we'll share a toast From the loving cup Here's to you grown old And to me grown up There's nothing left up your sleeve But I'm sorry to see you leave So retire into a memory You've earned a good rest It's been great and though I'll pretend to be Part of this midnight show Just between old you and me And that kid with his year to grow I'm sorry, really sorry to see you go
6.
So the season makes you sad and sentimental Memories it brings to mind Are things you'd rather leave behind Little lady lonely, don't you grieve Winter's got Spring up its sleeve This decor is more than merely accidental A time to plan, a plan to rest Get ready to be at your best Lonely little lady, just believe Winter's got Spring up its sleeve Soon you will know There's no better show Than the one going on right here Let Winter arrange An impossible change It's the fanciest trick of the year Though the setting isn't gay and ornamental There'll be a sudden change of scene It's part of nature's best routine When the curtain falls one frosty You'll awaken to a world that's bright and new For Winter's got Spring Winter's got Spring up its sleeve

about

7 Shades of Snow is proof of music’s power to transcend all barriers. Begun in 2020 at the height of pandemic restrictions, this project was conceived, arranged, and recorded remotely in 7 separate studios with
musicians who had never met - but are now forever connected through this musical
adventure.

7 Shades of Snow speaks to winter as well as the holidays -
the poignance of New Year’s Eve (Sorry to See You Go);
the long wait for spring (Winter’s Got Spring Up Its Sleeve);
the beauty of snow itself as a canvas for all the colors of the rainbow (7 Shades of Snow); an ironic take on holiday decorating (Hang Them On The Tree); a nostalgic blues ballad about being far from home during the holidays (Ring a Merry Bell) and a witty swing/bop song about celebrating the holidays (The Merriest).

Creating this body of work with such brilliant musicians was an unexpected and very welcome bright spot in what was a dark time for the world. The process taught me an entirely new way of making music!
